Microsoft SwiftKey tests offline AI voice-to-text feature

Microsoft is testing a new “AI voice” feature in the latest SwiftKey beta for Android (v9.13.16.4) that provides advanced voice-to-text capabilities. The feature aims to replicate the functionality of Google’s “Rambler” feature found on Pixel devices, which uses AI to transcribe speech, remove filler words, and format text cleanly.

A key distinction is that SwiftKey’s “AI voice” operates entirely offline by downloading a local language model. Testing on a Galaxy Z Fold 8 indicated the feature requires approximately 163 MB of storage and does not require a server connection, whereas Google’s Rambler requires an internet connection.

While the feature offers high-quality results, it currently lacks some capabilities found in the Pixel version, such as real-time transcription previews and the ability to use voice commands to edit text during a session. Users can access the tool via a microphone icon and finalize the process by tapping a checkmark.
