Microsoft targets agentic OS vision for Windows

Microsoft is pivoting its Windows strategy toward creating an ‘agentic OS’ by integrating artificial intelligence more deeply into the operating system. At a recent Windows and Surface event, CEO Satya Nadella and Windows chief Pavan Davuluri outlined a vision for hybrid intelligence. This approach aims to utilize free local AI models alongside cloud-based services to reduce costs and improve performance.

Demonstrations included GitHub Copilot coding locally without relying on expensive cloud tokens, as well as the integration of various agents such as OpenClaw, Hermes, and Perplexity. The goal is to attract AI developers and creatives by providing a platform that supports local model execution.

Separately, technical discussions regarding Windows 11 updates have highlighted challenges for users on unsupported hardware. While certain workarounds like the ‘setup /product servertrick’ have been used to bypass compatibility checks, newer versions such as 26H2 present difficulties with the BOOTMGR. Users seeking to upgrade unsupported systems may need to utilize ‘Enablement packages’ hosted by Microsoft to facilitate feature updates.
