Microsoft tests hourly Xbox Cloud Gaming access
Microsoft has begun testing a new service called ‘Cloud Playtime,’ which allows users to purchase specific blocks of time for cloud gaming without requiring a monthly Xbox Game Pass subscription. This model is currently being rolled out to participants in the Xbox Insider program.
Under this new system, users can buy hours to stream games they already own or play select free-to-play titles. In Brazil, promotional packages include 10 hours for R$ 6.90, 25 hours for R$ 14.90, and 50 hours for R$ 21.90. In the United States, testing prices are set at $3.99 for 10 hours, $7.99 for 25 hours, and $11.99 for 50 hours. The purchased time does not expire.
This initiative coincides with changes to the existing Game Pass structure, where Microsoft plans to introduce monthly usage limits for cloud gaming depending on the subscription tier. The company stated these changes are due to rising service costs as usage increases. Additionally, Microsoft is testing an ad-supported free streaming option for Insiders, which limits sessions to one hour in exchange for viewing advertisements.
