Microsoft tests new features and cloud recovery for Windows 11

Microsoft is testing several new features for Windows 11 aimed at improving user experience, connectivity, and system recovery. Currently available in the Insider Preview builds, these updates focus on audio management, mobile integration, and family safety.

Audio enhancements include a redesigned volume slider that displays real-time audio activity and the migration of several Control Panel options into the main Settings menu. A new adaptive volume feature for communication will automatically lower the volume of other applications during calls. For mobile users, the Phone Link app will allow for easier task continuity between smartphones and PCs.

To improve system recovery, Microsoft is testing a feature called ‘Cloud Rebuild’. This tool allows users to reinstall Windows 11 directly from the cloud via Windows Update without the need for a USB drive or external recovery media. Unlike existing cloud download options, Cloud Rebuild can function within the Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE), providing a solution even when the operating system fails to boot normally.
