Microsoft tests new Windows 11 interface features and removes Drop Tray

Microsoft is testing several interface changes within Windows 11 preview builds. One experimental feature, known as MaximizeWindow, aims to improve window management by allowing supported applications to launch in a maximized state by default. This feature is currently being tested with Windows Insiders to address inconsistencies in how the operating system remembers window sizes and positions.

Separately, Microsoft is removing the Drop Tray file-sharing feature from its latest preview builds following significant user pushback. Originally called Drag Tray, the feature appeared at the top of the screen when users dragged files in File Explorer. Because it was enabled by default, it often interfered with standard file management workflows. Microsoft stated it is exploring improvements to file sharing and plans to share more about a future replacement in due course.
