Microsoft to add native spell check to new Outlook

Microsoft is introducing a native spell-check feature to the new Outlook for Windows and Outlook on the web. This update allows the application to scan messages for spelling and grammatical errors immediately before a user clicks the send button, providing a final safety net to prevent typos in outgoing communications.

The feature will be available as an optional setting, meaning it will not be enabled by default. Users must manually activate it within the application settings. This move aims to reduce reliance on third-party writing tools by integrating a final review step directly into the sending process.

The rollout is scheduled to begin with a targeted release in mid-October 2026. General availability is expected to start in mid-November 2026, with full completion for most users by early December 2026. Specific rollouts for GCC, GCC High, and DoD environments are slated to finish by mid-December 2026.
