Microsoft to build AI data centre in Grevenbroich, NRW
Microsoft has signed a purchase agreement to add a fourth AI computing centre in the Rheinisches Revier near Grevenbroich, Nordrhein‑Westfalen, pending a building permit. The project follows three earlier sites in the coal‑mining region and is part of a broader €3.2 billion investment in German AI data centres. While the exact cost has not been disclosed, estimates range from high‑three‑digit millions to around a billion euros. If construction proceeds as planned, the facility could become operational in the early 2030s and generate thousands of jobs, supplementing several hundred direct positions and thousands of indirect jobs at related businesses.
In parallel, Microsoft released an optional Windows 11 update (KB5095093) that makes the File Explorer start up to 40 % faster and resolves long‑standing issues such as address‑bar freezes, image‑mounting delays, and folder‑renaming errors. The update also introduces a low‑latency profile that speeds program launches and improves system responsiveness. Third‑party developers have launched additional tools, including RenameClick, Cairo File Organizer, Actual File Folders, and Start11, to help users automate file sorting, remove duplicates and customise folder access.
