Microsoft to discontinue Copilot-generated themes in Outlook

Microsoft has announced the discontinuation of ‘Themes by Copilot’ in Microsoft Outlook. The phase-out is scheduled to begin in mid-October 2026 and is expected to be completed by the end of that month.

Users with a Copilot license who currently use an AI-generated design will continue to see it for the time being. However, if a user switches to a different standard design, they will be unable to return to a Copilot-generated theme. Additionally, features that allowed designs to update automatically, such as those based on weather data, will cease to function, causing the background to remain static.

The change affects the new Outlook for Windows and macOS, as well as web and mobile versions for iOS and Android. Microsoft has not provided a specific reason for the decision in its official communication via the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
