Microsoft to bring Xbox 360 games to PC in 2027‑2028

Leaked internal Microsoft documents show the company plans to let developers opt‑in to make Xbox 360 titles backward compatible on Windows PCs, the upcoming Project Helix console and supported handheld devices. The rollout is described as a “gradual” launch scheduled for 2027‑2028.

The same documents detail a “disc‑to‑digital” feature that will convert physical Xbox One and Xbox Series X discs into digital licences tied to the user’s Microsoft account, with the licence transferring when the disc is sold or traded.

Microsoft already released four original Xbox games on PC in July 2026, available through the Xbox on PC app and included with all Xbox Game Pass plans. Developers will retain control over pricing and Game Pass inclusion for any Xbox 360 titles they bring forward, while Microsoft’s emulator handles the technical conversion.
