Microsoft to end Office 2021 support in October 2026

Microsoft has announced that official support for Office 2021 and Office LTSC 2021 will end on October 13, 2026. After this date, the company will no longer provide security updates, bug fixes, or technical customer support via phone or chat.

The end-of-support affects several editions, including Home and Business, Home and Student for both Windows and macOS, and the Professional version. While installed applications like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint will remain functional, continued use poses increased security risks as new vulnerabilities will no longer be patched. Notably, Microsoft will not offer paid Extended Security Updates (ESU) for Office 2021.

As an alternative, Microsoft recommends migrating to Office LTSC 2024, which receives mainstream support until October 9, 2029. Additionally, the company is implementing changes to its cloud services, including adjustments to OneDrive storage models for various subscription tiers and the rollout of expanded features for the AI assistant, Copilot.
