Microsoft to host Windows and Surface event focused on local AI

Microsoft is hosting an event in San Francisco on October 7 (Pacific Time) to discuss the future of Windows and Surface, with a primary focus on ‘local AI’. This technology allows artificial intelligence to run directly on a PC rather than relying on cloud servers.

A key highlight of the event is the collaboration with NVIDIA. The companies are co-developing a Windows platform and security features for on-device agents. NVIDIA has introduced RTX Spark, a Windows PC platform designed for personal AI agents, which offers up to 128GB of unified memory and 1 petaflop of AI computing performance.

Microsoft has already introduced the Surface Laptop Ultra, which supports NVIDIA Blackwell RTX GPUs and is capable of running models with up to 120 billion parameters locally. The Surface line is included in the list of manufacturers for RTX Spark-based hardware, with laptops and small desktops expected to launch in the fall of 2026.
