Microsoft to increase OneDrive sync limit on macOS to 1 million files

Microsoft plans to significantly increase the OneDrive synchronization limit for macOS users. The current limit of 300,000 files will be raised to 1 million, a move intended to accommodate users and teams managing large data libraries.

This update will not be available to all Mac users automatically. Microsoft has stated that specific hardware and configuration requirements must be met to access the higher limit. Devices that do not meet these undisclosed minimum standards will remain restricted to the existing 300,000-file cap.

The rollout will follow a phased approach, beginning with a preview version for the Insider Ring in October 2026. General availability for the expanded synchronization capacity is currently targeted for June 2027.
