Microsoft to phase out Outlook Copilot inbox sorting and EWS

Microsoft has announced the discontinuation of the ‘Copilot Prioritize My Inbox’ feature in Outlook. The automated sorting function, which categorized emails into high, normal, or low priority based on content and sender context, will be phased out starting October 26, 2026. The removal is expected to be complete across all Outlook clients by the end of March 2027. Microsoft stated the move aims to simplify the Copilot experience and reallocate resources to other areas of the AI assistant.

Separately, Microsoft is transitioning away from Exchange Web Services (EWS) in Exchange Online. Since October 1, 2026, EWS has been blocked by default, affecting applications such as older Outlook versions, certain desktop add-ins, and Apple Mail. While administrators can manually re-enable EWS via the Microsoft 365 Admin Center or PowerShell until April 2027, the company advises migrating to Microsoft Graph for long-term compatibility.
