Microsoft to end Internet Explorer mode in Edge by 2029
Microsoft has issued a formal warning to enterprise administrators regarding the upcoming retirement of Internet Explorer mode within the Microsoft Edge browser. Support for this feature is scheduled to end by the end of 2029.
While the standalone Internet Explorer browser was retired in June 2022, the IE mode was maintained to allow businesses to run critical legacy web applications using the older Trident engine within the modern Edge environment. The company is providing this early notice to allow organizations sufficient time to modernize their digital infrastructures, audit legacy software dependencies, and transition away from outdated technologies that pose potential security risks to corporate and financial networks.
