Microsoft unifies Copilot apps into a single AI super app
Microsoft is consolidating its AI offerings by merging its consumer Copilot app with the Microsoft 365 Copilot enterprise environment. This unification aims to create a single 'super app' capable of handling personal tasks, workplace productivity, and AI-driven content creation. The rollout began in January 2025, with the goal of simplifying the user experience across Windows, mobile, and web platforms.
As part of this consolidation, Microsoft is retiring several consumer-focused features, including Group Chat, Podcasts, and Deep Research. Additionally, the animated AI character Mico, previously used in Copilot voice mode, is being removed from the general interface and transitioned to the 'Learn Live' educational platform to serve as a specialized tutor.
Financially, Microsoft's cloud and AI sectors show significant growth. Azure revenue surpassed $100 billion for the 2026 fiscal year, and the company's annualized AI revenue has exceeded $37 billion. Despite high capital expenditures for data center expansion, the company continues to see strong demand for its integrated AI services.
