Microsoft unveils Surface Laptop Ultra AI workstation
Microsoft has unveiled the Surface Laptop Ultra, a high-end mobile workstation designed to compete with Apple’s MacBook Pro. The device is specifically engineered for developers, content creators, and professionals who require heavy local AI processing rather than relying on cloud computing.
The laptop features the NVIDIA RTX Spark platform, combining an advanced graphics processor with a CPU based on the NVIDIA Grace architecture. High-end configurations can reach up to 6,144 CUDA graphics cores and a 20-core processor. To enhance physical durability, Microsoft introduced ‘Magnetic Connect’ USB-C technology, which allows cables to detach easily during accidental pulls to prevent the device from falling.
While the device boasts a 15-inch PixelSense Ultra display with high brightness and color accuracy, early reviews note some limitations. Testing indicates that while the AI performance is strong and the build quality is high, the Mini-LED display and battery life may not fully meet premium expectations. Additionally, the device lacks certain Copilot+ PC features at launch.
