Microsoft unveils unified Copilot platform with Home, Code, and Autopilot
Microsoft has announced a major overhaul of its Copilot AI platform, transitioning it from a simple assistant into a comprehensive workplace ecosystem. The new unified Copilot app is structured around three core pillars: Home, Code, and Autopilot.
The Home tab serves as a central hub, integrating conversational Chat with Cowork, a feature designed for delegating complex, multi-step professional tasks. This experience also features deep integration with Microsoft 365, allowing users to create and edit Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents directly within the Copilot interface.
The Code tab leverages GitHub Copilot technology to enable non-engineers to build applications, dashboards, and automated workflows using natural language. These tools run in a secure, sandboxed environment via the new Copilot Managed Runtime.
Autopilot, formerly known as Scout, functions as a persistent, cloud-based digital teammate. Unlike standard chatbots, Autopilot can operate autonomously in the background to monitor channels, manage recurring tasks, and handle follow-ups without constant user prompting.
Microsoft is also introducing a shift toward usage-based billing for specialized agentic functions. The rollout will begin via the Microsoft Frontier program, with Home and Code features expected in the coming weeks and Autopilot entering private preview later this month.
