Microsoft updates AI governance and achieves ISO certification
Microsoft has released its 2026 Responsible AI Transparency Report, detailing updated internal standards and enhanced technical monitoring tools designed to increase transparency in its artificial intelligence products. A key component of this update is a new structural approach that differentiates requirements for AI models, platform services, and applications, allowing for more precise risk controls at each technical level.
The company introduced several new technical tools to identify vulnerabilities and risks before deployment, including the AI Red Teaming Agent, RAMPART, and ASSERT. Additionally, Microsoft announced that M365 Copilot, the Foundry platform, and GitHub Copilot have received ISO 42001 certification, an international standard for AI management systems that validates structured risk control and governance processes.
The report also highlights a shift toward continuous supervision, moving away from one-time assessments to ongoing monitoring of generative AI systems and autonomous agents. Microsoft reported conducting approximately 2,500 evaluations of generative AI products and features, alongside more than 450 reviews of sensitive AI use cases, over the past year.
