Microsoft updates Copilot with unified app and admin controls
Microsoft is implementing updates to its Copilot ecosystem, focusing on unified application experiences and enhanced administrative oversight for organizations. The company is merging existing Microsoft Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot installations into a single client for managed Windows and Mac devices. This rollout to commercial customers is scheduled to begin in September.
Additionally, Microsoft is introducing new administrative settings for Copilot Cowork to manage browser access via Microsoft Edge. Through the Microsoft 365 admin center, IT teams can now decide whether to enable, disable, or restrict browser access to specific users or security groups. This feature, which is disabled by default, is expected to roll out worldwide in mid-September 2026 and conclude by late September 2026. These changes aim to provide organizations with granular control over how AI-powered capabilities interact with workplace workflows and web browsers.
