Microsoft updates Microsoft 365 sharing and Teams recording policies
Microsoft is implementing significant functional and security updates across its Microsoft 365 ecosystem, including OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams.
For OneDrive and file sharing, the company is introducing a centralized primary sharing link. Instead of generating multiple links for a single file or folder, users will use one link with modifiable permissions. This rollout is expected to continue through October 2026. The new default setting restricts access strictly to previously added individuals unless permissions are explicitly expanded.
Microsoft Teams will also receive updates regarding meeting recordings and transcriptions. Starting in November 2026 for targeted releases, meeting options will be more strictly tied to organizational administration policies. Users will see options for recording, transcription, or both, based specifically on what their organization’s policies permit. If a policy prohibits transcription, the option will be hidden from the user interface. Additionally, Teams is introducing new interfaces for external tools to detect manipulated media, such as deepfakes.
