Microsoft rolls out classic design theme for Outlook

Microsoft is rolling out an optional “Classic Outlook” design theme for both the web-based version of Outlook and the new Outlook for Windows. This update is intended to provide a more familiar visual environment for users transitioning from the older, traditional Outlook desktop client.

The rollout began in mid-August and is expected to reach general availability between late September and late October. The theme is a visual “skinning” of the interface that coordinates changes to layout, typography, icons, and certain interactions, but it does not change the underlying functionality or core logic of the application.

For most users, the setting will remain disabled by default. However, Microsoft may enable it by default for specific users who have recently migrated from the classic version to the new Outlook. Users can toggle the appearance at any time via the Settings > General > Appearance menu. This update does not override existing administrator configurations or trigger automatic migrations.
