Microsoft updates Windows 11 with automatic window maximization

Microsoft is introducing a new feature to Windows 11 via the optional KB5124010 update that allows users to automatically open applications in a maximized window state. This functionality, termed ‘Open maximized windows’, aims to provide a more consistent and standardized desktop experience by ensuring compatible software occupies the full monitor upon launch.

Microsoft has categorized this update as an accessibility improvement. It is specifically designed to assist users who rely on screen readers, magnification tools, or hybrid devices such as tablets and two-in-one laptops, where interacting with small maximize buttons can be difficult.

In addition to window management, the KB5124010 package includes improvements to File Explorer, such as the ability to remember whether specific sections of the initial screen were open.
