Microsoft updates Windows 11 with face recognition and memory improvements
Microsoft is introducing several performance and usability updates to Windows 11 through its Beta and Experimental testing channels.
To address issues with Windows Hello face recognition in low-light environments, a new setting allows the screen to briefly increase brightness during the authentication process. This feature, titled ‘Automatically adjust screen brightness during face recognition’, aims to assist the color camera in identifying users when ambient light is insufficient.
Additionally, Microsoft is implementing improvements to memory management designed to increase system responsiveness. The new approach aims to allow active tasks to hold approximately 2 GB more data within the same amount of RAM by reducing the resources used by background system components. For devices with 8 GB of RAM or less, the ‘Widgets’ component will now load on demand rather than running constantly in the background, potentially freeing up over 200 MB of memory for other tasks.
