Microsoft updates Windows 11 with new UI features and reports gaming crashes

Microsoft has released new updates for Windows 11 that introduce significant UI customization features alongside technical issues affecting PC gaming.

Update KB5124008, released for versions 24H2 and 25H2, restores the ability to move the taskbar to the top or sides of the screen, a feature previously available in Windows 10. Users can also utilize a more compact taskbar and adjust the size of the Start menu to 'Small', 'Large', or 'Automatic'. The Start menu configuration has also been reorganized to allow users to hide or show specific sections like Pinned and Recommended.

However, a separate update, KB5124010, is causing compatibility issues with several PC games. Players of Battlefield 6 and Wardogs have reported unexplained crashes shortly after starting game sessions. These issues appear to stem from conflicts with anti-cheat systems, such as EA’s Javelin and Easy Anti-Cheat. While users have found that uninstalling the KB5124010 update resolves the crashes, the patch remains available as an optional update through Windows Update.
