Microsoft updates Windows Update controls and addresses .NET Framework errors

Microsoft has introduced updated controls for Windows Update as of April 2026, allowing users to better manage pause periods, active hours, and restart schedules to prevent interruptions during work. Users are advised to use these settings cautiously to ensure security updates are not delayed indefinitely.

Simultaneously, a technical issue has been identified following the August 2026 cumulative update for the .NET Framework. This regression affects applications using Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), specifically causing errors during printing or the generation of PDF and XPS documents. The issue arises when the system processes certain common fonts, such as Calibri, Cambria, Constantia, and Corbel, during the glyph subsetting process. IT professionals are advised to conduct thorough pre-production testing of document workflows to identify these errors, as simple application launches may not reveal the fault.
