Microsoft Windows 10 users can upgrade to Windows 11 for free
Following the end of support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025, users can transition to Windows 11 through several official methods. If a device meets the necessary hardware requirements, the upgrade is free and can preserve existing files, apps, and settings.
Supported upgrade paths include using Windows Update, the Windows 11 Installation Assistant, or an ISO file. While the Media Creation Tool can be used to create installation media, it is no longer supported for performing in-place upgrades. Users are advised to back up their data before proceeding with any installation.
To qualify for a standard upgrade, hardware must meet specific minimum requirements, including a compatible 64-bit CPU (such as Intel 8th Gen or newer, AMD Zen 2 or newer, or Qualcomm 7 and 8 Series), at least 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage, TPM 2.0 with UEFI firmware, and Secure Boot capability. Devices that do not meet these specifications may require manual bypass tools or a clean installation, which may impact the ability to receive future updates.
