Microsoft Windows 11 update triggers blue‑screen crashes

Microsoft released Windows 11 updates KB5094126 and KB5093998 in June 2026. Users of HP and Lenovo PCs reported immediate blue‑screen crashes with error code 0xc0430001, linked to a Secure Boot certificate issue. The update also disrupted OneDrive and Dropbox access in File Explorer due to a conflict with User Account Control. Temporary fixes include ensuring the boot.stl file is trusted or re‑enabling UAC.

In a related change, Windows 11 (and supported Windows 10 versions) now ignores desktop.ini files that originate from untrusted sources such as internet downloads or marked‑with‑Web (MOTW) files. As a result, custom folder icons and names revert to the default yellow folder icon. Microsoft says this is a security measure, not a bug, to prevent malicious use of desktop.ini. Enterprises can restore the previous behavior by adding trusted sites or enabling the “Allow the use of remote paths in file shortcut icons” policy, though this reduces protection. Individual users can unblock files with PowerShell commands.
