Microsoft Windows 11 updates cause desktop errors and system instability
Microsoft's recent Windows 11 updates are causing significant technical issues for millions of users globally. A monthly patch has been reported to trigger severe desktop failures, including sudden system crashes, continuous screen flickering, and the total freezing of the taskbar following a restart.
Users have reported that File Explorer closes unexpectedly when interacting with shortcuts, preventing access to personal folders and programs. This instability appears to stem from a conflict between new cumulative components in the patch and various graphics drivers, leading to cyclical collapses of the graphical interface and black screens.
Additionally, the optional update KB5120998, released as a preview for September, is causing customization errors. This specific patch affects mouse cursor appearance, resets custom animations to defaults, and causes desktop wallpapers to reset or disappear, often resulting in a black background. Microsoft has officially acknowledged these issues and is currently investigating a definitive solution.
