Microsoft Word formatting: Tables of contents and margins
Microsoft Word provides automated tools for document formatting, specifically for creating tables of contents and adjusting page margins.
To generate an automatic table of contents, users must apply heading styles (Heading 1, Heading 2, or Heading 3) via the Home tab rather than simply using bold text or larger fonts. Windows users can utilize keyboard shortcuts Alt+Ctrl+1, Alt+Ctrl+2, or Alt+Ctrl+3 to assign these styles quickly.
Page margins can be managed through the Layout or Page Layout tab. Users can select preset margin options or define custom values for top, bottom, left, and right margins. Proper margin setting is essential to prevent text from being cut off during printing, especially on devices with non-printable edge areas.
