Xbox CEO Asha Sharma sets 2030 target of 500 million daily users

Xbox chief executive Asha Sharma circulated an internal memo outlining a multi‑year growth plan for the division. The plan targets 500 million daily active users by the 2030 fiscal year, roughly half of a longer‑term goal of one billion daily users. Current daily usage is about 100 million.

The strategy is built around four pillars – Core (reinforcing the Xbox console as the platform’s hub), Content (expanding top franchises into global series), Creation (turning Minecraft into a world‑leading creator platform) and Connection (broadening fan‑community ecosystems). Sharma said the focus will shift back to hardware and exclusive titles after a period of cloud‑gaming emphasis.

The memo follows a major restructuring that saw about 3,200 jobs cut and a further 1,600 slated for removal, along with the sale or closure of several studios. Xbox reported a revenue decline of roughly 7 % (about $1.7 billion) in the most recent fiscal year. The company aims to restore growth by the end of fiscal 2027 and improve profit margins while leveraging its flagship IPs such as Minecraft, Halo, Gears, and newer casual titles like Candy Crush.
