Microsoft's quantum chip claim disputed by physicist

Physicist Henry Legg of the University of St Andrews published a formal critique in Nature questioning Microsoft’s 2025 announcement of a topological qubit on its Majorana 1 chip. Legg re‑examined the experimental data and identified calibration problems, Python code errors, and the omission of noisy measurements, concluding that the observed signals could be explained by ordinary electronic states rather than Majorana modes.

Microsoft responded that the key result does not rely on the disputed superconducting gap and posted corrected analysis scripts, while reaffirming its roadmap toward a scalable quantum computer. The dispute revives past controversies over claimed Majorana detections and puts pressure on Microsoft to provide stronger evidence before its projected 2029 commercial launch.
