Strategy shifts capital to STRC buybacks and USD reserves

Strategy has shifted its recent capital allocation focus from Bitcoin accumulation toward managing its digital credit products and strengthening its liquidity reserves. According to SEC filings from August 2026, the company sold approximately 3.46 million MSTR common shares to raise $333.7 million.

These funds were distributed to support the company's preferred stock obligations: $132.2 million was used to repurchase STRC shares, and $52.4 million was allocated to STRC dividends. The remaining proceeds were used to increase the company's USD reserve by $150 million, bringing the total cash buffer to $4.8 billion. This reserve is intended to cover dividend and interest obligations for approximately 2.8 years.

During this period, Strategy did not purchase any new Bitcoin, marking an eight-week pause in its typical accumulation routine. As of August 16, 2026, the company's Bitcoin reserve stands at 840,447 BTC.

In an investor Q&A, Founder Michael Saylor addressed market volatility, advising that Bitcoin investors should maintain a long-term perspective of at least four to ten years. CEO Phong Le defended the company's capital issuance strategy, noting that such moves create value for shareholders as long as they increase the amount of Bitcoin held per share.
