MicroStrategy expands Bitcoin holdings after weeks of sell pressure

MicroStrategy, the publicly traded firm known for its large Bitcoin treasury, announced a purchase of roughly 1,550 BTC for about $101 million, raising its total stake to 845,256 BTC. The acquisition was financed by a $181 million common‑stock offering that also boosted the company's cash reserves to roughly $1 billion.

The buyback follows a recent market decline in which Bitcoin fell about 14 % to the $60,000 level after MicroStrategy disclosed a prior sale of 32 BTC. Analysts and market participants debated the cause of the sell‑off: CEO Michael Saylor cited temporary pressure from the company’s AI‑related spending, while investment firm Arca argued that the news flow surrounding MicroStrategy’s actions heightened investor anxiety. Open interest in Bitcoin futures fell, and Bitcoin‑linked ETFs recorded a net outflow of $1.75 billion, suggesting broader market caution.

The episode highlights how the trading actions of a single, high‑profile corporate holder can influence price dynamics in the broader cryptocurrency market.
