MicroStrategy releases guide defining Bitcoin as digital capital

MicroStrategy has released a revised 21-page ‘Bitcoin Investor Guide,’ framing Bitcoin as ‘21st-century digital capital’ rather than a mere speculative asset. The guide positions Bitcoin as the foundational layer for a new digital capital market where stocks, credit, debt, derivatives, and currency can be built.

Targeting professional investors, bankers, and capital allocators, the document outlines the core logic of Bitcoin’s scarcity, open access, global liquidity, and independent verification. It highlights the institutionalization of the market following the SEC’s approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs in early 2024, which has expanded access through futures, options, and custody services.

The guide emphasizes that while institutional products provide regulated infrastructure, they do not eliminate risk but rather shift it. It distinguishes between direct Bitcoin ownership and various exposure methods—such as corporate equities, preferred shares, bonds, and derivatives—noting that each carries different legal rights, costs, and counterparty risks.
