Strategy Inc sells 3,588 Bitcoin for $216 million to fund dividends

Strategy Inc (formerly MicroStrategy) disclosed that it sold 3,588 BTC for about $216 million in two tranches between June 29 and July 5, 2026. The average sale price was roughly $60,000 per coin, well below the company’s average cost basis of $75,476, resulting in a realized loss of more than $55 million. Proceeds were used to pay quarterly dividends on its preferred‑stock securities (STRF, STRE, STRK, STRD and STRC) and to replenish its USD reserve, which now stands at $2.55 billion. After the sale the firm still holds 843,775 BTC, valued at about $52 billion, and retains the full $1.25 billion capacity of its newly‑announced Bitcoin Monetization Program. The Q2 report recorded an $8.32 billion loss on digital assets, driven primarily by the decline in Bitcoin’s market price. Analysts note the move marks a shift from the company’s historic “never sell” stance to using Bitcoin as a liquidity source, but they do not expect a forced‑sale spiral. Bitcoin’s price has remained above $62,000 despite the transaction, and the market impact appears limited to sentiment among institutional holders.
