MicroStrategy's Bitcoin Purchases Boost Broader Blockchain Adoption
Blockchain is moving beyond its original focus on cryptocurrencies, finding use cases in logistics, personal data protection and automated contracts. Companies such as Walmart already use the technology to trace food products from farm to shelf, enabling rapid recalls, while firms like Google and Meta are eyed for decentralized identity solutions that let users share only needed data.
U.S. software firm MicroStrategy has become the largest publicly‑traded holder of Bitcoin, owning about 818,334 BTC bought for roughly $61.8 billion. The company funds these purchases not with its own cash but by continuously selling ordinary shares, preferred stock and convertible notes on the Nasdaq, a process CEO Michael Saylor describes as a “printer” for Bitcoin. Saylor predicts Bitcoin could reach $20‑21 million per coin, and plans to raise another $42 billion between 2025 and 2027 to keep buying the cryptocurrency.
