Mid-Missouri faces heatwave and scattered storms ahead of July 4 celebrations

Meteorologists forecast a warm start to Independence Day in Mid‑Missouri with morning temperatures in the low 70s, followed by isolated to scattered thunderstorms moving in from the northwest. An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect, with heat index values expected to approach 100‑105°F as afternoon highs climb into the upper 80s and low 90s. The storms could produce strong winds, large hail and localized heavy rain, but are not expected to disrupt evening festivities.

The same pattern is projected for the surrounding weekend, with the hottest day predicted on Friday and additional storm chances later Friday night and throughout the holiday period.
