Midden-Groningen to host Week of Democracy in September

The municipality of Midden-Groningen and local libraries are organizing a ‘Week of Democracy’ in September to highlight the importance of freedom, engagement, and democratic values.

Key activities include the installation of a new children's mayor and a ‘Council of the Future.’ The program also features opportunities for youth aged 12 to 20 to dine and converse with council members to share ideas and concerns.

In conjunction with the national ‘Week of the Forbidden Book’ from September 19 to 27, the Hoogezand Library will focus on freedom of speech and the right to read. This includes a themed display of censored books and a discussion led by Alfons Pot on September 23. Additionally, residents can engage with the mayor and council members online to discuss the meaning of democracy.
