Midden‑Groningen adopts new framework for affordable homes, care and sustainability

The municipality of Midden‑Groningen signed a five‑year framework agreement (2026‑2030) with local housing corporations and tenant organisations. The pact targets the delivery of sufficient affordable social‑rental housing, the creation of livable neighbourhoods, the integration of care for elderly and vulnerable residents, and the energy‑efficient retrofitting of buildings.

Mayor Lianna Bogema said, “We want people to feel at home in Midden‑Groningen and for housing to be a top priority.” Tenant representative Ynse de Vries added that the agreements “show what we can achieve together for residents.”

At the provincial level, Deputy Pascal Roemers accepted a tenant‑perspective report that will inform Groningen’s upcoming Volkshuisvestingsprogramma, required by the new Wet versterking regie volkshuisvesting before 1 July 2027. Roemers noted that “the tenant voice brings valuable insights from daily practice.” The province aims to align its housing policy with the needs identified by the collective tenant platform.
