Middle East and Europe aviation disruptions impact travel and corporate earnings

Geopolitical tensions and security concerns in the Middle East and Europe are causing widespread aviation disruptions and impacting corporate financial forecasts. Expedia Group has projected fourth-quarter revenue between US$3.69 billion and US$3.75 billion, a figure below Wall Street expectations. The company cited the Middle East conflict, unrest in Europe, and the US midterm elections as primary factors for the moderated outlook.

In the Middle East, significant flight disruptions have been recorded. On November 5, 2026, airports in the UAE, Türkiye, Egypt, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia reported 828 delays and 91 cancellations. Saudi Arabia is facing particular pressure due to security threats, including reported missile and drone risks at airports like King Khalid International in Riyadh. The United Kingdom has advised against all but essential travel to Saudi Arabia, while the United States has issued security alerts for the region.

Simultaneously, European air travel has faced challenges, with over 1,000 delays and 53 cancellations reported across 12 airports on November 4, 2026. Major hubs including Istanbul, Moscow, Amsterdam, and Frankfurt recorded high delay counts, affecting passengers across multiple countries.
