Middle East conflict: Israeli strikes in Lebanon and military intelligence misuse on Polymarket

In Lebanon, Israeli airstrikes in Kfar Rouman killed at least 13 people, including six children, when missiles struck a residential complex. An Israeli military agent and a civilian have been charged for using sensitive information to bet on an Israeli counterattack against Iran in April 2024. This marks the first global criminal case involving the use of internal military data for gains in a prediction market.

Concerns have also been raised regarding the integrity of information on Polymarket. Instances include a Washington-based think tank allegedly modifying a map of the Ukraine front just before a bet expired, and a journalist receiving threats after reporting on an Iranian missile strike that contradicted prevailing narratives used by bettors.
