Middle East oil exports return to pre-conflict levels

Middle East crude oil exports have seen a significant recovery, reaching levels between 19.5 and 22.5 million barrels per day by late September, according to data from Kpler. This marks a return toward pre-conflict averages.

In the Strait of Hormuz, daily crude volumes have surged, with recent weekly averages exceeding 14 million barrels per day—a more than 210% increase from the lows seen in March. Additionally, liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments through the strait reached their highest levels since February 2016.

While oil supply is stabilizing, analysts warn of a critical shortage in refinery capacity to convert crude into diesel. This capacity gap is noted in the United States, Europe, Russia, and parts of the Middle East. To mitigate maritime risks, the US Navy is reportedly supervising a safe navigation corridor near the coast of Oman, allowing tankers to bypass certain tensions in the Gulf.
