Middle East peace discourse: Questions raised on sovereignty and civilian safety

In a response to a July 30 op-ed by Daniel Kagan regarding Middle East peace, Zoë Lidstrom proposes a series of fundamental questions intended to challenge underlying beliefs about the conflict.

The questions address the sovereignty of Palestine, the right of the Israeli people to self-determination, and the rights of both Palestinians and Israelis to live free from violence and in safety. Additionally, the inquiry touches upon the responsibilities of both Palestinian entities and the IDF regarding civilian suffering and the protection of non-combatants during military operations. The discourse also seeks to identify practical paths toward lasting peace and the potential role of the United States in the region.
