Middle East tensions escalate amid Israeli strikes and U.S. sanctions on Iran

Regional tensions in the Middle East are escalating due to military activity and diplomatic shifts. In Lebanon, Israeli strikes and explosions near the Ali al-Tahir hills signal a potential intensification of conflict. Amidst this, Hezbollah representative Hassan Fadlallah visited Iran to meet with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, a move viewed as an attempt to seek a settlement to protect southern Lebanon.

Diplomatic efforts to mediate between the United States and Iran are reportedly being facilitated by Pakistan, following a visit by its army chief to Tehran. Meanwhile, the Lebanese General Security has issued a six-month residency visa to the unaccredited Iranian Ambassador, Mohammad Reza Sheibani, following his previous loss of diplomatic credentials.

On the economic front, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced ‘Operation Economic Outcast’ against Iran, describing it as one of the most severe economic sieges in history. Additionally, a Saudi-French summit emphasized the necessity of implementing UN Resolution 1701, ensuring the disarmament of armed groups, and the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory.
