Middle East tensions rise amid maritime attacks and military operations
Tensions in the Middle East have escalated due to maritime attacks and intensified military operations. The British Maritime Trade Operations reported that four unknown projectiles struck two vessels four nautical miles west of Khasab, Oman, causing a fire on one ship. This follows claims by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps regarding attacks on American vessels and oil tankers in the Gulf.
In response to regional instability, the United States Treasury Department has imposed new sanctions on individuals and entities in Iraq, the UAE, Lebanon, and Turkey that support Hezbollah and other Iranian-aligned groups. These measures are part of an effort to disrupt funding for missile production and regional operations.
Simultaneously, the Israel Defense Forces conducted large-scale demolitions in southern Lebanon, using approximately 1,100 tons of explosives to target infrastructure in the Ali al-Tahir hills and surrounding areas. Israeli leadership has vowed to continue these operations, which include airstrikes and the use of drones to destroy residential buildings and facilities in towns such as Al-Mansouri and Bani Hayyan.
