Middle East tensions rise as Israel strikes Syria and UAE cuts ties with Iran

Tensions in the Middle East have escalated following several significant developments. Israel confirmed it conducted an airstrike on a military airport in northwest Syria near Idlib. The Israeli government stated the attack was necessary because the base was reportedly being used to facilitate the movement of Turkish troops, which they claimed violated existing security agreements.

The United Nations has responded by urging Israel to cease its offensive, describing the strikes as a concerning violation of Syrian territorial integrity and airspace.

In the Gulf, the United Arab Emirates announced the immediate suspension of all commercial, trade, and financial transactions with Iran. This decision follows the detection of two Iranian ballistic missiles launched toward Emirati territory.

Additionally, U.S. President Donald Trump sparked further controversy by posting on Truth Social that the Strait of Hormuz is 'new' United States territory, following the expiration of a 60-day negotiation period between the U.S. and Iran.
