Middlesbrough man charged after alleged assault at son's funeral

Gye Worthy, 39, has been charged following an alleged assault during the funeral of his son, Cole Worthy, at Teesside Crematorium. The incident occurred after Worthy reportedly objected to remarks made during the service for the 17-year-old.

Cleveland Police confirmed that Worthy faces charges of common assault, public order offences, and obstructing police officers who attended the scene. He is scheduled to appear before Teesside Magistrates’ Court on October 2.

Cole Worthy was one of several individuals killed in a high-speed crash on the A66 near Middlesbrough on August 22. The collision involved a speeding vehicle that struck a police armed response vehicle, resulting in the deaths of five youths and two police officers, PC Matthew Blades and PC Tom Clough.
