Middlesex University Mauritius hosts inaugural cybersecurity competition
Middlesex University Mauritius hosted the inaugural edition of ‘Hack the Campus’ on October 2, an inter-university cybersecurity competition utilizing the Capture the Flag (CTF) format. Held at the Flic-en-Flac campus, the event brought together more than 70 students from various institutions, including the University of Mauritius, the University of Technology Mauritius, VIT, and Polytechnics Mauritius.
Participants were organized into 25 teams to tackle complex digital challenges involving ethical hacking and digital investigation. The competition covered diverse cybersecurity disciplines, such as cryptography, network analysis, web security, reverse engineering, and Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT). Teams earned points by identifying vulnerabilities and decoding information to find hidden digital ‘flags’.
The event aimed to address the growing demand for cybersecurity expertise in Mauritius and globally, driven by the increasing complexity of threats related to cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
