Middlesex wins Metro Bank One-Day Cup, ending 36-year drought
Middlesex won the Metro Bank One-Day Cup at Trent Bridge, ending a 36-year drought for a List A trophy. They defeated the Leicestershire Foxes by 31 runs in a low-scoring final.
After struggling early in their innings and falling to 71 for five, Middlesex recovered through a 135-run sixth-wicket partnership between Ryan Higgins and Harry Duke. Higgins scored a maiden List A century from 115 balls, while Duke contributed 55 runs. Despite a five-wicket haul by Leicestershire’s Ian Holland, Middlesex reached a total of 231 all out.
Leicestershire’s chase was led by New Zealand international Nick Kelly, who scored 103 runs. However, Tom Helm’s decisive spell at the death helped restrict the Foxes to 200 all out. Middlesex’s bowling effort was bolstered by Toby Roland-Jones and Naayva Sharma, the latter of whom finished the competition as the leading wicket-taker with 20 wickets.
