Middletown officer charged with computer criminal activity

Tony D. Perito, a 40-year-old officer with the Middletown Police Department in Monmouth County, has been charged with computer criminal activity. According to court records, Perito illegally retrieved a woman's booking photo using the Spillman Flex Program in April and subsequently shared the image with the arrestee via a social media platform.

Perito, a nine-year veteran of the department, was previously recognized for valor in 2023 after pursuing armed robbery suspects during a vacation in Maryland. He is currently suspended without pay following the charges filed on July 7. His first court appearance is scheduled for July 28.
